Inspired by the Chinese wuxia novels by the legendary Jin Yong, Ashes of Time is one of Wong Kar-wai’s early work on Chinese martial arts featuring an all-star line-up including Leslie Cheung, Leung Ka-fai, Lin Ching-hsia, Tong Leung, Maggie Cheung and more. This 2008 remake titled Ashes of Time Redux is created with new effects and a new score and was debuted at the Cannes Film Festival the same year. The new soundtrack features original music by Frankie Chan and Roel A. Garcia with additional score and rearrangement by instrumentalist Wu Tong and additional cello solos by renowned musician Yo-Yo Ma. A much-underrated masterpiece perfectly blending music from the east and the west.
