Szary and Gernot originally intended to rerecord old tracks from their first two albums, Hello Mom! And Happy Birthday!. But what began as a reconstruction transformed almost entirely into something new: a fresh collection of pieces that captures the spirit of their early releases without simply copying them. The duo looks back while simultaneously creating the future. Tracks like "Kill Bill Vol. 4," "Edgar," and other album titles served as source material, were repeatedly disassembled and reassembled, reinterpreted, and ultimately used, in most cases, only as abstract inspiration. The result is a retrospective that has emancipated itself. Classics Vol. 1 forges an unexpected bridge between then and now, encapsulating everything that defines Modeselektor: curiosity, chaos, humor, and an unwavering need to constantly uncover new facets of their own history.
