Cupping Notes: Brown Sugar, Toasted Marshmallow, Spice

Impact Story: Your purchase not only supports local women in recovery, but it also supports coffee producers by providing market access, in addition to collaborating on development projects, gender equality initiatives, and quality improvement programs in Mexico.

Farm Impact: Café Sierra Azul is a small cooperative in Chiapas, Mexico within the El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve—home to the largest evergreen cloud forest in Mesoamerica and the largest remaining tropical rainforest on the Mexican Pacific coast. Sierra Azul is a relatively new cooperative founded in 2010 by young people in the community who had grown up in coffee and were looking for opportunities to create sustainable livelihoods in Chiapas rather than immigrate to the United States. In fact, one producer that the Bellwether team met, immigrated to Utah and worked as a farmer before returning to his community to produce coffee. The vast majority of the 300 members are young people and women who are able to access better markets and financing as well as technical assistance and social projects through the cooperative.
