Tim Buckley – Happy Sad (2017 Remaster, Rhino Reserve Series, 180g Vinyl)

One of the most visionary singer-songwriters of his era, Tim Buckley reached a creative peak with his 1969 album Happy Sad—a stunning blend of folk, jazz, and soul that showcases his ever-expanding artistry. For the first time, Buckley penned all six tracks himself, moving beyond his earlier collaborations with lyricist Larry Beckett and into a more personal, exploratory sound.

From the Miles Davis–inspired opener “Strange Feelin’” to the deeply emotional “Buzzin’ Fly” and the hypnotic sprawl of “Gypsy Woman,” the album finds Buckley stretching both vocally and musically. Backed by Lee Underwood on guitar and David Friedman on vibraphone, Happy Sad features lush, mostly acoustic arrangements that leave room for Buckley's voice—his most powerful instrument—to take center stage.

This edition is part of the Rhino Reserve series, cut from the original tapes by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering and pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Fidelity Record Pressing in Oxnard, CA, ensuring top-tier sound quality and fidelity.
