GoGo Penguin – Necessary Fictions
An expansive new chapter from the genre-defying Manchester trio
Manchester’s GoGo Penguin—pianist Chris Illingworth, bassist Nick Blacka, and drummer Jon Scott—return with Necessary Fictions, a bold evolution of their genre-blending sound. Fusing jazz, classical, and electronic influences, the album sees the trio incorporating modular synthesizers and, for the first time, inviting guest collaborators.
Highlights include “Forgive the Damages,” featuring the band’s first-ever vocal performance with singer-songwriter Daudi Matsiko, and contributions from the Manchester Collective, led by violinist Rakhi Singh. Necessary Fictions captures a group confidently pushing forward—curious, expansive, and creatively fearless.
