Originally recorded live on March 1, 1997, at Markthalle Hamburg in Germany, Slip Stitch and Pass is Phish’s eighth album and second official live release—now available as a 2-LP vinyl set. Captured near the close of their 1997 European tour, the performance marks a pivotal moment in the band’s evolution toward a deeper, funk-infused groove.

Engineered by Paul Languedoc and mixed by John Siket to analog reels, the album blends nine tracks from both sets of the Hamburg show into one seamless 73-minute live experience. From transcendent jams like “Wolfman’s Brother” and “Taste” to standout covers of Talking Heads’ “Cities,” ZZ Top’s “Jesus Just Left Chicago,” and the barbershop classic “Hello My Baby,” the record captures Phish at a creative high point in an intimate club setting—just as they were transitioning to their arena-funk era.

Highlights include the only-ever Mike’s Groove pairing of “Mike’s Song” > “Lawn Boy” > “Weekapaug Groove,” featuring a surreal spoken-word interlude nodding to The Doors’ The End.
